4 Self Care Tips for Pregnancy

Simple Ways to Focus on You

Taking care of yourself during pregnancy can certainly be a challenge. Between the changes in your body, doctors appoitnments, and the hard work your body is doing, it can be easy to forget that you need to care for yourself!

While you might not be able to go all-out and pamper yourself every day during pregnancy, taking a little time to care for your body and mind will be good for you and the tiny human you are growing.

Here are a few simple ways to focus on you when so much of your life has become about the new addition that’s on the way.

1. Hydrate: But Make it Fun

We all know staying hydrated is important for anyone, but sometimes it can be hard for pregnant moms to remember just how important it is! Try buying yourself a new water bottle to keep with you, or set a timer on your phone to remind yourself to drink throughout the day.

You can also throw a handful of cucumbers or fruits into a jug of water and keep it in the fridge to add a bit of flavor without resorting to sugary beverages.

2. Make Nourishment a Priority

While you are putting so much energy into growing a person, remember that a well-fed mother will help support a healthy pregnancy! Ask friends to set up a meal train, keep a stash of nutritious snacks on hand, and be sure to make extra when you do have time to prepare a meal. Your future self will thank you for the leftovers.

3. Move Your Body

The aches and pains of pregnancy can sometimes put a damper on your usual workout routine (not to mention the nausea!) However, if you are able to safely do so, moving your body every day will help keep your mind and body healthy.

Try some gentle prenatal yoga or go for a swim to help prevent strain on your joints. Remember to always consult your care provider before starting a new workout routine while you are expecting.

4. Splurge on One Thing for Yourself

Getting new, cute things for you baby is all part of the fun while you are pregnant! But don’t forget to spoil yourself a little too. Even if it’s just one small thing to make your life more enjoyable during this time, make it a priority to treat yourself.

If you aren’t able to do all of these things right away, don’t worry. The last thing you need to do is add stress to your life. Simply pick one or two that seem doable for now. Eventually, you will be able to focus more time on self-care again.

A calm, nourished mom and a healthy, growing baby are the top goals during pregnancy. Prioritize the things that support those goals, and add in the rest as you can.

And remember, never hesitate to reach out to your health care provider if you have concerns about your health or your baby. It’s always better to ask the questions you have than try to figure it out alone!
